The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme at Transnet Corporate Centre provides students and recent graduates with the opportunity to gain practical workplace experience in Richards Bay, South Africa. This 12-month programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice, enhancing employability through mentorship, training, and exposure to industry-specific tasks. Reporting to the Senior Specialist: Youth Development, trainees will participate in projects, operational activities, and administrative functions while developing problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills. The programme emphasizes compliance, safety, and professional standards, preparing learners to contribute effectively within a corporate environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in specific projects within a department or work-stream
• Perform routine operational tasks under supervision
• Support administrative functions, including documentation and reporting
• Participate in training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programs
• Shadow experienced professionals to gain practical insights
• Engage in problem-solving activities to develop analytical skills
• Interact with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to understand business needs
• Provide regular updates on assigned tasks and project progress
• Serve as a central contact point for queries and assistance
• Conduct market research, data collection, and analysis to support business decisions
• Prepare reports and presentations using MS Office tools
• Assist in process improvement initiatives
• Follow company policies, procedures, and safety regulations
• Ensure adherence to ethical and professional standards
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity in all tasks

Qualifications

• Matric certificate
• S4–S5 technical level with completed theoretical coursework in Electronics, Electrical (Heavy Current), Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Physical Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering
• Must be a South African citizen
• Age between 18–35
• Preference will be given to People with Disability
• No bursary obligation with another company
• Proof of confirmation or letter from the institution (most recent)
• Certified copies of Matric certificate, Academic Record, and ID
